Oversize Denim Gridlock Shirt Jacket

Starting with a long-sleeve shirt template, I merged the yoke and back pieces into a single panel. Going for an oversized fit, I extended the shoulder lines on both the front and back bodice.

Using the dimensions of the cuff and collar block, I transferred those measurements to where the front bodice meets the side seam. This block then became the fabric for the cuff and collar. With leftover fabric from a previous project, I saw an opportunity to combine it with the denim base, creating a bold contrast. This allowed me to fill that section with a secondary fabric, introducing a striking contrast that adds visual interest to the bodice.

I had this concept of stripes weaving in and out of the garment with the secondary fabric. To execute this idea, I inserted buttonholes into the garment and threaded fabric strips through them, ensuring the strips were long enough to reach the seam ends. This weaving technique was applied to the back and around the sleeves, giving the piece a dynamic, layered texture.

With the extra fabric surrounding the template, I crafted straps similar to a backpack. I added clips and buckles to finish the look. Seeing it all come together really solidified the streetwear-inspired aesthetic I was aiming for.
